Campus – Orchard Environment

Orchard Environment (apple harvest & tree study) The front part of the building and front yard is the residential area of the River Mist property and not used to service the children. However, the orchard in the front yard area produces apples and occasionally plums. The trees next to the garage produce apricots. At harvest time the children are invited to pick the fruit. (Family dog is secured as residential pets and children do not mix and are kept separate). This fruit is then harvested, washed by the children, and used for different purposes. There is often a large apple harvest, so apples will be sent home, used for snack, and even used for art like apple printing! The orchard is another way River Mist teaches healthy habits and how food is produced. Along with the garden and river environments, our Orchard environment is a truly unique part of our school!
